Second Graders Spell-Check NFL Players' Tweets

Read this article.
Do you agree that "it's not that important to sound educated"? Why or why not? Why is it important to learn proper grammar and be able to create sentences at such a young age? What do you think about this teachers way of teaching? How do you think texting and tweeting impacts the way we talk, spell, and write?

Great blog post! I obviously think proper grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation are VERY important. It makes you seem more credible as a writer and person, and in the business world, it ensures your message is transmitted in the clearest manner possible. I didn't always have a class blog as bell work. After teaching for about a year, I saw how terrible my students' writing had become; it seemed texting played a major role. Poor writing made the students look lazy, unintelligent, and immature. I started blogging with my classes to get students writing in my class everyday because practice makes perfect... at least that's how the saying goes. I think this teacher's methods are awesome. Combining two things that students are interested in, Twitter and football, with English grammar and spelling is quality teaching! I'm sure the second graders loved correcting their favorite football players' grammar! He made learning fun. I'm sure being on the national news will qualify him for teacher of the year. :)

There is a time to sound uneducated and a time to sound educated. It is important to sound educated but just sounding isn't all. Teachers teach proper grammar to students at a young age so at later in life it will be like second nature. Texting helps people to type better, but it also makes people put lol and stuff in an important document and you might of not even meant too.

I find it very important to not only sound educated when speaking but also to present yourself in a likely manner. When you present yourself in a positive way, it allows you to look smart and not ignorant. Many adults and teachers would prefer to talk to a person that sounds educated than those who can't pronounce words or use slang. If you learn a good education early in life, it will be easier growing up and you won't have as many changes to make when growing older. This would be a fun way to learn as well as a fun activity. But, it can cause them to think of NFL players negatively but it is a real fact. I am very weird when texting and tweeting, I try to be the same as talking and using all my grammar right so I look educated.

Its very important to sound educated. When you have a job like being a pro football player, you should have proper schooling and teaching. Its important that you can learn how to properly communicate between people because that is the basis of life. The way the teacher is teaching is very modern and a good idea. when we text and tweet we get lazy on our grammar and spelling.

I don't agree that "It's not important to sound educated". I think it is very important. You are a NFL player and should be teaching children that nothing is "not important". I think it is very important to learn good grammar at such a young age, because you remember more things from when you are younger then now. I think this was an awesome idea on the teacher’s part. It shows students that English can be used and corrected in a real-life case. I have to say texting and tweeting has changed the way people type and write. A lot of people use text slang or tweet slang to actually write or type a paper. I text as if I am typing a paper. I hear it all the time form my friends. I would rather use proper grammar than text slang.

I think it is very important to sound educated. I also think it is very important to learn proper grammar at young age. One reason being that when you get older and have a awesome career like these football players and don't know how to talk, it would probably affect their career. I think this teacher is awesome. I do believe that texting has impacted the way we talk because when people text they find some way to shorten their words

I think that it is important to sound educated. You need to know proper grammar for lots of things.
Just as long as the students get whats she's teaching I don't have a problem. I don't think it impacts us at all.

I think that it is very important to sound educated. Because otherwise you sound like a moron. Because you many jobs will not take you seriously if you can not spell. As long as she gets the students to learn then I think she is doing good. I think that when people text they sometimes forget to use normal spelling.

I think it is very important for people to sound like their educated. I always use proper grammar because I like to sound intelligent with a wide vocabulary.Whenever I mispronounce or misspell words It always drives me crazy. Proper grammar should always be used especially when working. People should always speak properly because that is more professional. I feel like this day in time people don't care about their spelling or sentence errors because their such in a rush to get their tweet or status post out. I like that the teacher pointed his error out the way he did, In my opinion pointing someones error out in sort of an embarrassing way will hopefully be a reminder to the students to correct their grammar errors.

I think it is important for NFL players to sound educated because they are role models for other kids in the world. If they're not using proper language now, then why would kids want to?? I use the same slang when I talk when I'm texting or tweeting. When I write an essay in school I use proper grammar that I have learned throughout my years of school.
